Offshore wave tank

A new wave generator is created to mimic the offshore environment and is enclosed within a strongbox with a space for placing any soil-structure model and a piston-type wave paddle mounted at one end. The paddle actuator can produce a wave frequency up to 20 Hz at 100 g, covering the whole frequency range of the Pierson-Maskowitz wave spectrum. The wave paddle can generate various types of waves including sinusoidal, regular and propagating waves. In order to avoid the wave reflection from the opposite end, a plastic wire mesh is used for efficient wave energy absorption. The soil bed and the model foundation can be placed between the paddle and the absorber.
